Choosing a car hauler
A car hauler is sized by deck length and by how low the vehicle sits. Most cars need 16 to 20 feet of usable deck; a long-bed pickup or a project car with a trailer hitch of its own needs more.
Ramp angle is the specification that decides whether a low car loads at all. Slide-in ramps that extend further create a gentler angle; a low-profile deck does the same thing from the other end.
Tie-down points matter as much as capacity. Four anchor points positioned for the wheels — not the frame — are what keep a vehicle from walking on the deck over a long haul.
Questions worth asking first
Will a lowered car load without scraping?
Only if the approach angle is shallow enough. Look for extended slide-in ramps or a low-profile deck, and measure the car's front overhang and ground clearance first.
Open or enclosed for a project car?
Open haulers are lighter, cheaper and easier to load. Enclosed protects paint and hides the contents, at a significant weight and price step.
How do I secure a vehicle properly?
Strap over the tyres at four points where possible. Tie-downs on suspension components load the straps every time the suspension moves.
