Choosing an equipment trailer
Equipment trailers are rated around the machine they carry. Start from the operating weight of the heaviest machine you will haul, add attachments and a full fuel tank, and only then look at GVWR.
Deck style decides how hard loading is. A low-profile deck sits closer to the ground and makes for a shallower ramp angle, which matters for anything with low ground clearance. A deckover carries wider loads because the deck sits above the wheels, at the cost of extra height.
Ramps are not an afterthought. Slide-in ramps stow out of the way, fold-up ramps are quicker to deploy, and the angle they create is what actually determines whether a low-slung machine will go up them without scraping.
Questions worth asking first
What GVWR do I need for a skid steer?
Most compact skid steers run 5,000 to 8,000 lb before attachments. With a bucket and a full tank, a 10,000 lb GVWR trailer is the usual floor and 14,000 lb is the common choice.
Low-profile or deckover?
Low-profile for a shallower load angle. Deckover when the machine is wider than the trailer frame and needs the full deck width.
Do the ramps come with it?
Ramp type is listed per unit. Where a manufacturer publishes it, the listing says so; where they do not, ask the desk before ordering rather than assuming.
