Choosing a tilt trailer
A tilt trailer replaces ramps with the deck itself. The bed pivots to the ground, you drive or winch the load straight on, and the deck returns level under the weight. For low-clearance equipment that is the difference between loading and not loading.
Gravity tilt decks return under the load's own weight and are simple to maintain. Hydraulic tilt gives controlled movement in both directions, which matters for loads that would slam a gravity deck down.
The advantage over a ramp trailer is angle and time: no ramps to carry, store, lift or misplace, and a shallower approach than most fold-up ramps produce.
Questions worth asking first
Why choose tilt over ramps?
Low ground clearance and repeat loading. A tilt deck gives a shallower approach angle than most ramps and there is nothing to lift into place each time.
Are gravity tilt decks safe to operate alone?
They are designed to be, but the deck moves when weight crosses the pivot. Follow the manufacturer's loading procedure and keep clear of the pivot point.
Can a tilt trailer carry a skid steer?
Many can, within their GVWR. Check the published rating against the machine's operating weight plus attachments.
